There are two specialized tracks to choose from based on your interests:

Each track consists of two courses. Students can take both courses in a track or choose one course in a track.

Undergraduate students in good academic standing who will have completed 1 year of Bachelor studies by the end of Winter 2024.

SMU students pay tuition and registration fee of 2,100,000 Korean Won (approx. CAD$2110) at the host institution, University of Seoul.

Students will also be responsible for housing*, meals, international travel, insurance, $100 study abroad admin fee and personal expenses. *UOS supports on-campus housing fees for first 60 students who are nominated by the home university and complete tuition payment before April 30.

University of Kassel in Kassel, Germany, is inviting Saint Mary’s students to participate in their summer school on Sustainability and Behavioral Economics.  The program is offered by Uni Kassel’s Faculty of Economics and Management, and is most suited to students who will have completed two years of undergraduate studies studying Economics, Management, and other related disciplines. Announcement from Global Affairs Canada

Global Affairs Canada has launched the 2024-2025 Faculty Mobility for Partnership Building Program (FMPBP) competition. This program offers grants to full-time Canadian faculty for short-term teaching and/or research activities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The FMPBP award is valued at CAD$7000. Travel must occur between April 2024 and March 2025.

Multiple applications are allowed per institution. All applications must be submitted by the Global Learning Office through its institutional account.

ONLINE LEARNING CONTENT DEVELOPER

AWB’s experience during the pandemic has revealed the significant benefits of embracing online delivery as a major component of its operations. Online programming allows us to bring together large groups of volunteers from numerous countries with a wide range of expertise to offer projects in low and middle-income countries, including in places where on-site work was not previously possible.

We are looking for volunteers to assist with the development and delivery of online and blended projects in collaboration with other volunteers who have expertise in the content area of the project and with faculty and staff at our partner institutions. The support provided by the volunteer will vary with each project, including strategic guidance aimed at designing high-quality online educational spaces, adapting content to online delivery, and offering technical assistance.

The online teaching and learning content developers will assist other AWB volunteers to be more effective in achieving project objectives. There will also be opportunities to share your knowledge and skills with colleagues at partner universities who desire to learn about effective online teaching strategies and tools.

We are looking for 4-6 volunteers.  

We are looking for volunteers with knowledge and expertise in most of the following areas:

• Applying sound pedagogical design to online learning at the post-secondary level

• Advising and supporting instructors in creating online courses within a learning management system (LMS) or Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

• Working with instructors to implement best practices in online teaching

• Creating digital media content, such as: video/audio creation and editing, image editing and creation, blending and sequencing of content, and using common content creation software applications

• Applying Web development skills such as: overall page design and layout, embedding interactives using H5P, infographic creation

• Ensuring courses adhere to AWB and partner institution quality and accessibility standards

We are looking for experienced faculty and staff (working or retired) with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related work experience who meet the preceding requirements. Applicants with experience working in academic settings in low and middle-income countries are especially encouraged to apply.

Applications for The Uarctic Entrepreneurship Fund are accepted until October 27 2023.

To truly solve the challenges facing the Arctic, and thus the world, UArctic is committed to supporting the development of northern entrepreneurs and providing resources to help advance local ideas. The UArctic Entrepreneurship Fund (click here) is a new initiative that complements existing, mature prize funds with a seed-fund program, encouraging innovation and solutions on a local level.

The fund is open to any individual with an incubator-stage product or service that directly benefits the Arctic environment or Arctic communities and has a positive, demonstrable impact on the Arctic. We especially encourage applications from Arctic Indigenous and/or northern-based entrepreneurs. Expected grant disbursement amounts are in the range of $2,000 to $5,000 USD, though exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.

Study abroad for a semester in the United States! Killam Fellowships Program 2024-25

The Killam Fellowships program is an exceptional opportunity for full-time Canadian undergraduate students to pursue an exchange program at American universities. Applicants chosen through a competitive selection process are awarded a US$6000 scholarship (approx. CAD$8100) for their exchange study in the US. Saint Mary’s partner institution in Japan, Rikkyo University, will offer an in-person Japanese language program.

Dates: Jan 9-Jan 26, 2024 

The program consists of 46.7 hours of classroom instruction on Japanese language plus 25 hours of lectures on Japanese culture and society, including field trips. See the attached flyer.

Costs:

306,000yen (approx. CAD$2900) payable to the host institution to cover tuition and administrative fee. The program cost does not include transportation costs (to and within Japan), or any other miscellaneous living expenses for the duration of the program.

Every year, the Government of Japan, via the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), offers scholarships to foreign students who are interested in studying at a Japanese university. 

The Undergraduate Students Scholarship is intended for students born on or after April 2, 1999, and who’ve already completed or will have completed at least 12 years of education or a program the equivalent of Japanese Senior High School by March 2024. The Research Students Scholarship is intended for students who were born on or after April 2, 1989, and hold a bachelor’s degree, or the equivalent, in any subject. Please note that the deadline for submitting applications is Monday, May 15, 2023.

[Summer Program] The 32nd Jyväskylä Summer School

Do you want to boost up your academic knowledge of STEM - science, technology, engineering, mathematics - during the summer break, and create scientific networks and memories? Jyväskylä Summer School offers you a unique academic and cultural journey that gives you the opportunity to challenge yourself and develop your skills in your field of interest. You also get the chance to spend time in an international science community.

Jyväskylä Summer School, organized at the University of Jyväskylä this year for the 32nd time, offers courses for advanced Master’s students, PhD students and post-docs in various fields of natural sciences, mathematics and information technology. All courses are taught in English by distinguished researchers from all over the world. Thus, the programme provides students with an excellent opportunity to participate in a large number of courses and benefit from high-quality interdisciplinary teaching. Participation in all Summer School courses is free of charge. Students from all over the world are encouraged to apply.

Two larger themes are represented in the courses of the 32nd Jyväskylä Summer School:

Costs

Participation in all Summer School courses is free of charge. Participants are responsible for covering their own meals, accommodation and all costs related to travel as well as possible visa costs.

Credits from the program are transferrable to the extent that they fulfill the student’s degree requirements, on a Letter of Permission approved by your academic program. Tuition is paid at SMU for the transfer credit hours. 50 euro registration fees are payable to ESSCA. Funding is available.
