Safe Travel Resources

When you travel abroad, it is important that your travel is well planned so you will stay safe and healthy. These resources may be of use to Saint Mary’s University students, faculty and staff who are leaving Canada.

Register your Travel

All students, faculty, and staff who are travelling abroad for university-related or university-sanctioned activities must register their travel with the Global Learning Office. Information collected on insurance and emergency contacts through Travel Abroad enables the University to provide you with feasible assistance in the case of an emergency during your travels.

Collection of travel information is handled under the authority of Section 33c of Nova Scotia’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. It is treated in a confidential manner and will be used for both statistical and emergency related purposes.

You should register your travel as soon as your plans have started to become firm (e.g. travel and accommodation have been booked). You can make additions and changes to the information before and during travel as plans evolve.

Thank you for your cooperation. We strive to make international travel safer and more accessible for all students, faculty and staff. If you have any questions, require support, or experience technical difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact the Global Learning Office, global@smu.ca

Notes for Group Travel Leaders

Group travel (such as field schools) faculty or other leaders must complete the Pre-Departure Risk Management Plan, provided by the Global Learning Office. Please contact global@smu.ca for information.

Each individual traveler must submit the above registration form prior to departure.
