[Summer Program] Frankfurt Summer Universities 2024 June 23-July 6 2024

Frankfurt Summer Universities is offered at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences in Frankfurt, Germany. They look forward to welcoming international students into their summer program this summer!

Frankfurt Summer Universities also offers fun extracurricular activities for students to participate in, as well as field trips to political, financial, and architectural sites. “The city is our classroom!”

Intercultural Communication Competence

Language of instruction: English

Target group: Undergraduate students in good academic standing who will have completed 2 years of Bachelor studies by the end of Winter 2024. This is an interdisciplinary course. Students and working professionals from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

 Fees and costs:

SMU students pay a program fee of 850euros (approx. CAD$1,240) at the host institution. Students who are accepted before April 7 2024 will benefit from a reduced fee of 750euros (approx. CAD$1,100). The program fee covers 2 weeks of academic courses, course materials, public transportation in Frankfurt, and opening/closing events.

SMU will not charge a separate tuition fee.

Students will also be responsible for accommodation, meals, international travel, insurance, $100 study abroad admin fee and personal expenses.

You can book accommodation through Frankfurt Summer Universities (see here https://www.frankfurt-summer-university.de/en/housing/). The prices are 580euros (approx. CAD$850) for double occupancy and 450euros (approx. CAD$660) for a quadruple room (3-4 people). They cannot guarantee your preferred housing choice.

It is strongly recommended to start the visa application process as soon as students receive their acceptance letter so to avoid any delay.

If your advisor confirms that there is room for transfer credits in your degree, you will request approval to take courses for transfer credits by submitting a Letter of Permission Request Form (found here https://www.smu.ca/academics/student-forms.html) to the SMU Records Office as soon as your acceptance is confirmed.

University of Kassel in Kassel, Germany, is inviting Saint Mary’s students to participate in their summer school on Sustainability and Behavioral Economics.  The program is offered by Uni Kassel’s Faculty of Economics and Management, and is most suited to students who will have completed two years of undergraduate studies studying Economics, Management, and other related disciplines. Transfer credits:

SMU students can earn the following credits to the extent that those are applicable to their SMU Program Requirements AND with approval from the SMU Records Office via a Letter of Permission Request Form:

  • ECON3901 “Experiments on Sustainable Behaviour” for the Experiments on Sustainable Behaviour

  • GRMN1101 “German for Absolute Beginners” for the German course

 

Tuition:

SMU students pay SMU tuition as normal at SMU for the transfer credit hours.

No additional tuition will be assessed by the host university.

 

Non-tuition costs:

Students are expected to pay for their travel to and from Kassel and travel insurance as well as living expenses and accommodation while in Kassel.

The Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) Program

 

DAAD Study Scholarship – Funding for Master’s Studies or Research in Germany:

Highly qualified final-year undergraduate students or those who have received an undergraduate degree in any discipline may apply for the DAAD Study Scholarship for an entire Master’s degree program at a German university or as part of a Master’s degree program completed in the US/Canada.

Application deadline: November 4, 2022.

 

DAAD One-Year Research Grant:

Highly qualified candidates who have completed a Master’s degree, or in exceptional cases, a Bachelor’s degree at the latest by the time they begin their grant-supported research, are encouraged to apply for DAAD’s Research Grant-One-Year-Grants.

They are accepting a proposal from researchers and teaching staff from all academic disciplines as well as practitioners and International Office members on innovative ideas around interdisciplinarity, digitalization and sustainability. Virtual Exchange in Germany, Fall 2020

Take part in Virtual International Programme “VIP” at  Justus Liebig University Giessen this fall!

The VIP invites international students from JLU Giessen’s partner universities from around the world to undertake a virtual exchange stay at JLU and to gain international study experience to complement your Saint Mary’s degree program. Participating students can choose one or more seminars and lectures, taught completely online. This offer includes around 60 online courses from different JLU departments at undergraduate and graduate level, held in German, English, French or Spanish language. As the offer is part of the regular JLU curriculum, international students enrolled will benefit from an international learning environment.

Dates: 11 November 2020 – 19 February 2021

Delivery: Please check the course description – many have both asynchronous and synchronous components.
