ACIC Symposium: Celebrate International Day of Peace

Celebrate International Day of Peace with ACIC!
ACIC invites you to register for ACIC Symposium 2022: Peace Through The Looking Glass: Reflections on Justice, Equity and Strong Institutions.

ACIC’s Symposium 2022 will examine the ways justice, equity and institutions are at the core of sustainable development and can both support and hinder peace-building efforts around the world. Join us on October 28 and 29, in person in Halifax, or online, as we explore the intersections of peace, environment, education, consumerism and human rights. Understanding the importance of Sustainable Development Goal #16 in helping to safeguard peace, we will explore the concept of peace from a multitude of perspectives and consider the intersection of peace with sustainable global development both locally and globally.

The Symposium will bring together international cooperation practitioners, environmentalists, youth, Indigenous leaders, human-rights activists, feminists, local governments, civil society leaders, issue-specific experts, advocates and academics to encourage dialogue across sectors and cultures. The Symposium is rooted in fostering a learning environment through a combination of keynote sessions, panel discussions, workshops and opportunities for connection, that will strengthen individual and collective capacity to engage Atlantic Canadians and provide them with the tools to recentre peace as a critical value at a time when global solidarity is challenged at every turn.

To ensure financial barriers are not a deterrent to your participation, we have bursaries available for those who might need them. If there are accessibility concerns you’d like to let ACIC know, please write to ACIC at membership@acic-caci.org.

The Youth Stream provides an opportunity for participants aged 18-29 years, to connect with their peers and professionals working in the field of International Cooperation, as they attend the ACIC Symposium. Pariticipants will engage in mentorship and networking opportunities, learn about topics related to the symposium theme of justice, equity, and strong institutions, all the while reflecting on how this work impacts communities at the local and global levels. Learn more about the application criteria and apply here. Deadline: Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

Stories are powerful: they weave people and experiences together and shape how we see the world. Knowing the impact and value of a well-told story, ACIC’s PhotoVoices Program empowers youth to share the narratives they want to tell through photos. Through the program, Atlantic Canadian youth and youth from the Global South use photos to share their stories, build skills, explore various topics related to social justice, learn from experts in the field, and so much more. Why get involved?

  • Share, network, and collaborate with like-minded youth living in Atlantic Canada and the Global South.

  • Develop skills in photography, communication, social justice action, storytelling, and more!

  • Opportunity to learn how to address community needs, concerns, planning, and other lived realities

Upon completion of the program youth will receive a certificate of completion and a $250 honorarium for the time and commitment.
